Commissioned artwork in oil and coloured pencil

THE COMMISSION PROCESS

I work mostly from photos when doing portraits. I like the client to send me several images (including a favourite) as this helps me to get to ‘know’ the subject a bit better. These can also help provide detail that may be missing in any single photo.

I can combine subjects from various photos to create group portraits and am also able to add or delete various objects and features if required. Backgrounds, for example, can be changed or completely removed.

After I have worked on the drawing or painting for a short while I send a visual update for the client’s approval . I continue to send updates until the work is completed to give the client the opportunity to check the portrait for accuracy and suggest any changes if needed.

The length of time taken to complete a portrait can vary widely ranging from around 3 hours to 30 hours or more depending on the complexity of the image, number of subjects involved, and the medium used. Oil paintings take more time than coloured pencil for example and the materials used to create an oil painting, including stretched canvas and the highest quality paints, are more expensive. Also factored into the pricing is time taken for communication between artist and client.

I take great pride in my work and and go the extra mile to ensure that every client has a portrait that they are very happy with.

I usually ask for permission to post the portrait on my Portrait Guy Facebook page or add it to the gallery on this website once it is finished but there is no obligation for the client to agree to this.

Due to difficult economic times I have decided to REDUCE prices and also introduce a lower cost A5 size option. Hopefully this will make it possible for almost anyone to purchase a hand-crafted portrait of a beloved pet or person.

All pencil portraits can be window-mounted (ready for display or framing) for an extra $30. Please let me know if you would like this option.
